Alternate Level of Care Policy Brief

Patients in mental health hospital beds who do not need a hospital level of care are often designated Alternate Level of Care (ALC) and face significant barriers to discharge. Many of these patients have nowhere to go after a hospital admission. There are a number of solutions to free up hospital resources for those who need access to acute care and reduce the number of ALC days in the province.
